We are delighted to announce that this year's conference will take place on Thursday 21 October at the Park Hotel in Kilmarnock.

As always our event will provide an opportunity for all those working in community food and health to come together and share learning, practice, and skills with others tackling food access and health inequalities across Scotland. Our conference is workshop-led to maximise full participation from everyone attending.

We are really keen for community food and health projects to share how their activities are impacting on current health improvement strategies both locally and nationally. Information on how you can apply to present a workshop at our event will be included in the next edition of Fare Choice. Booking information for our event will be available later in the summer.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Free community engagement training (two days)

19/20 August, Glasgow
26/27 August, Perth

Good engagement skills are vital for staff and volunteers working in community-based or community-led organisations planning food and health activities. On this two-day course you will learn how to reach and engage with groups and individuals, particularly those considered 'hard to reach' or 'rarely listened to'.

Day one of the course will be delivered by Olivia Hanley from the Scottish Community Development Centre. She will introduce and discuss the policies and principles of community engagement and provide you with tools and methods to plan and assess your engagement work.

Day two of the course will be delivered by Vikki Hilton of Hilton Associates. She will provide hands-on experience of participatory methods as well as an opportunity to develop an action plan for your future work.

Both days will provide interactive sessions where you will have the opportunity to share and discuss your experiences of engagement with others.

If you work in a community-based group or agency and are involved in food and health activities then you are welcome to apply for this free training. Applicants can choose to attend the course in Perth or Glasgow.

We will provide free accommodation if this is required and will consider assisting with travel costs. We will prioritise applicants that can attend both days of the course, but will consider applicants who would like to attend only one of the days. If you would like more information and an application form, contact Kim.
